This blog is written by Gavin Brown.  I am a Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Leicester in the UK.  This blog originally provided me with an opportunity to report my progress working on a small research project, and to test out ideas related to this project as they occur to me during the process.  Now that that research project is over, it is a place for me to post my ongoing thoughts about aspirations, social hope, education policy and initiatives to encourage widening participation in higher education – all informed by a geographical approach to these topics.
